BMW repair in Fort Collins.

3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1 through X7, and M cars. Every chassis from E36 to G20. N52, N54, N55, N20, S55, S58 engines. We use ISTA and Autologic for diagnostics, OEM and OE-equivalent parts (Bosch, Mahle, Pierburg, ZF), and we know the failure modes.

In short: Auto Trends is Northern Colorado’s independent BMW specialist. Cooling system failures (the N52 / N55 classic), VANOS work, oil pan gaskets, fuel system, transmission service. ISTA scan tools and OEM parts — typically 30–40% less than dealer pricing.
Common Symptoms

BMW symptoms we see most.

If your vehicle is showing any of these, bring it in. Most are addressable; all deserve real diagnosis before parts are thrown at the problem.

Our Process

Dealer-level diagnostics. Independent-shop pricing.

BMW diagnostics require BMW-specific tools. ISTA (the dealer software) and Autologic for advanced module work. Generic OBD-II readers don’t even speak to most BMW modules — they’ll show 1–2 codes when there are 15.

For repair work, parts quality matters. The plastic cooling components (water pump, thermostat housing, expansion tank) on N52, N54, N55 engines have known failure modes — and the aftermarket “equivalent” parts often fail faster than the OEM ones did. We use OEM Pierburg, Mahle, Bosch, and BMW-branded parts where they matter.

For everything else, we use OE-equivalent (the same parts BMW sources from, just without the BMW box). The result: same materials, same standards, typically 30–40% less than dealer pricing.

FAQ

Common questions.

Are you a viable alternative to the BMW dealer?

Yes. We use OEM and OE-equivalent BMW parts, and ISTA dealer-level diagnostic software. Pricing is generally 30–40% below dealer for the same work.

How much does a BMW water pump replacement cost?

Depends on engine and chassis. A typical N52 / N55 water pump and thermostat job runs $700–$1,200 with OEM parts. We always provide a written quote after inspection. We strongly recommend doing the thermostat, water pump, and expansion tank together when one fails — the others are usually close behind.

Do I need to register a new battery on my BMW?

Yes — BMWs from 2007+ require battery registration through the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) module. Without registration, the charging system will overcharge the new battery and burn it out in months. We register every BMW battery we install. If you bought a battery elsewhere, bring it in and we’ll register it.

Do you work on M cars?

Yes. We service M3, M4, M5, M6, X5M, X6M, and M2 platforms. The S55, S58, S63 engines have specific service requirements (rod bearing inspection, oil pan gasket, charge pipe upgrades on tuned cars) — we know them well.
